It’s never too early or too late to build your brand. Your brand focuses on who you are, what you will become, and where you’re going in life. All those things have one thing in common, and that is that they are determined by your character. Your character speaks for itself. It’s not what you say all the time, but it’s also about what you do. Your character is broken down into three main components: Respect, Trust, and Responsibility.

RESPECT
There is a saying, “you have to give respect to get respect.” I could not agree more. As an individual building your brand, you have to make sure that you are always respectful. You never know who’s watching. Giving a little respect, even if you have not received the same, goes a long way. Giving respect shows a lot about your character. Respecting others is just half the battle. You have to have respect for yourself also. You can’t really expect anyone else to show you any type of respect if they can see that you don’t respect yourself. Respecting yourself means being mindful of the way you dress, talk, and carry yourself on a regular basis. No one is perfect but if you behave as though your parents are always watching, you could come close.

TRUST
Trust is very important. People will not want to be in your company if they feel that they can’t trust you. Branding yourself as a honest and trustworthy person will open up many doors. It benefits you more to be honest in a situation than to lie. Being truthful shows that you have integrity. You not only have to be trustworthy, but you should also have trust in yourself. When you trust in yourself, you give off a confidence that makes people want to be in your presence. Trusting in what you do and what you say will make others trust you as well.

RESPONSIBILITY
What does it mean to be responsible? First you must be able to prioritize. You must know what needs to take priority in your life. Knowing that work comes before play, shows that you can be responsible. Being responsible means being dependable. You should always want to be that person that people can rely on. Reliability is important in any relationship. Your brand’s strength is determined by how dependable you truly are. Are you that person that can always be counted on?
